How to Add-On External Sensor Packages (Depth)?

Lets say we've build the rov 2.5. Then we purchased the sensor package for the depth and nav. What is the best way to get the wires out to the sensor which is in the water?

1. drill a hole through the plastic and pot ?

- will likely cause alot of stress in the plastic (weaken structure micro stress fractures?)

2. Create a whole new end cap

- even with BOM how do we get it sent out to be laser cut who would do that?

Keep in mind that we want to be very confident about that endcap not breaking.

Answer to self: there are 6 aux. wires in standard build two reserved for I2C and 4 for the new PMU sensor unit. Thus there are no additional aux. wires for user tinkering, I've added additional wires out to allow tinkering and sensors down the line. There are 24 Dig and 7 Analog pins slated for user use.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hey Eric,

I like your answer to self! Sorry for taking so long to write back- I usually look for questions on the forms but haven't really been patrolling the Dozuki questions.

Sooo... four of the six aux wires are for I2C devices: 3v3, GND, SCL, and SDA. With those, you should be able to connect the Depth/IMU sensor and still have two additional wires for *whatever*. I always picture the other two being used for external lights or something like that. As you may know, I2C devices are addressable, so even if you add other I2C sensors or interments to your ROV, you can tie them into the same bus of four wires. Since there are six AUX wires, you could also potentially hook up an SPI device.

I'd love to see what you came up with-- would you mind posting some photos to the forums?

I have a question along the same lines. I'm building a 2.5 and have the IMU/Depth Sensor. Since this is a new build, are there any recommendations on running the wires any different from the standard build? (Ex. 4 wires to TP22-25 or 4 wires Parallel to I2C)
